Hash House Harriers

The Hash House Harriers is a global group that blends r*nning, socializing, and a sense of quirky tradition. We do r*n — but more than chasing finish lines, we care about community, camaraderie, and having fun.

Hashing began in 1938, started by a group of British expatriates living in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Inspired by the idea of "Hare and Hounds," they created a r*nning-and-trail-finding game. Since their meeting spot was a canteen affectionately nicknamed the “Hash House,” the group became known as the Hash House Harriers.

From its roots in Southeast Asia, hashing has spread around the globe. Today, there are over 2,000 Hash chapters in more than 100 countries. From city alleys to forest trails, you’re bound to spot a group chasing after a “hare.” Just shout "R U?" and you'll surely hear someone call back "On-On!"

Hashers (as we call participants) follow a route set by a designated Hare. After the r*n, the real fun begins with a social ritual called a Down-Down (also known in some groups as the Circle) — filled with songs, jokes, traditions, and of course, cold beer.

Hash at Taiwan

Taiwan is one of the most vibrant regions for Hashing in the world. With its diverse and scenic natural landscapes, it offers an ideal playground for Hashers — and over time, it has also cultivated a unique Hashing culture that reflects Taiwan’s own character.
